Peter Newell is Professor of International Relations at the University of Sussex. Prior to this he held posts as Professor of Development Studies at the University of East Anglia; James Martin Fellow at the Oxford University Centre for the Environment; Principal Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Globalization and Regionalization, University of Warwick; Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex; associate researcher at FLACSO Argentina and researcher and lobbyist for Climate Network Europe in Brussels. He has worked as an academic, teacher, consultant and activist on the politics and political economy of issues of environment and development for nearly 20 years. The main areas his work has covered include: the politics of climate change; the regulation of agricultural biotechnology; issues of corporate accountability and business regulation; environmental justice and civil society and trade policy in Latin America.
